The night accomodation is an attraction in itself, as you will spend 2 nights in a resort overlooking the 200 meter high Tad Fane waterfall and 2 nights on a luxury river boat.

Welcome to Pakse, a city rich in history to the country’s south a mere stone’s throw from the borders with Thailand and Cambodia. Upon arrival, a friendly local guide will greet you at the airport and transfer you to Tad Fane Resort fro check-in. Along the way, ride an elephant at Ban Kiat Ngong, which is located on the Bolaven Plateau, one of the most scenic spots in Southern Laos. The resort overlooks the Tad Fane Waterfalls, thundering down into a 200-meter deep gorge. Beyond the waterfalls stretches the extensive jungle of Dong Hua Sao, one of the 18 National Biodiversity Conservation Areas in the country. The rest of the day is free at your leisure.
After breakfast in your hotel, you’ll be driven to Ban Lak Sao Sam to visit this most interesting village of the Khammu tribal people. From here, trek down to the Champi River, through coffee plantations and sections of old growth forests, where rafting safety equipment is distributed and guests receive a paddle instruction and river safety briefing. Then set off negotiating the fun rapids of the Huai Champhi while passing some of the most scenic old growth forest on earth. Your experienced guides will share their extensive knowledge of these remote areas and soon you will stop at a special spot for a picnic lunch and a relaxing swim. This afternoon continue downstream through the traditional homelands of the Alak and Laven peoples. Ethnically and culturally distinct from the Lao Loum (lowlanders), it is fascinating to experience these isolated cultures as until August, 2002, this area was inaccessible to visitors. Later in the afternoon, arrive at the finish point where we change into dry clothes before making our way back to the relaxing atmosphere of the resort for a well-earned rest. Overnight in Tad Fane.
After breakfast in your hotel, transfer to Pakse to begin a most interesting adventure in Southern Laos. Depart from Pakse, heading south aboard a local long-tail riverboat arriving at Champassak in time for lunch at the local landing. After lunch, explore the enigmatic Wat Phou, a collection of ancient ruins scattered on the slopes of 1,500-metre high Phou Asa Mountain near the Cambodian border. The ruins are some of the the most exquisite of Khmer temples outside of Cambodia, the mountain having been thought of as prime real estate by the Khmer Empire when it was at its mightiest. None of the other Khmer temples can compete with the views from this one, which are utterly incredible. Allow a gentle giant from a nearby elephant camp help you to the top for endless views of the surrounding jungle scenery. your home for the next 2-nights while cruising down the river. Dinner is served on board, while the boat docks for the night at a remote Lao village.
After breakfast on board, continue downriver, bound for the village of Huai Thamo, only a few minutes walk away from the spectacular, hidden forest temple of Oum Moung. Afterwards, rejoin the Vat Phou cruising southwards into the wild paradise known as “4,000 Islands”. Here, visit Khong Island and the village of Muang Kong, where the traditional way of life has not changed in centuries. Later, back on board, enjoy a quiet dinner under the stars, serenaded by the song of the buffalo toads.
Enjoy breakfast while cruising to the small village of Ban Veuthong, where we board a local car-ferry to reach the mainland and the amazingly scenic splendor of the Khone Pha Pheng Waterfall, “the Niagara of the East“, close to the Cambodian border. On arrival at the small fishing village of Xieng Di, we will board a small long-tail boat to Khone Island, at the very south end of this natural water dam, where if you are very lucky, you might catch a rare glimpse of the river dolphins! Lunch amid the bygone splendour of another age, colorful French colonial houses and an old customs post, alongside a stone quay. Then return to Pakse or continue to Chong Mek border crossing.
