Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)! Your journey will begin in the late afternoon, where you will be transferred to the pier for your cruise. Settle into your cabin and prepare for a breathtaking 8 day adventure to Siem Reap, home of the mysterious Angkor temples.Enjoy a cocktail reception at the Funnel Bar and Lounge after check-in. The rest of today is free for you to relax on deck as we continue our cruise to Kampong Cham.Dinner will be served in the Dining Hall. Enjoy a spectacular evening on the sundeck as we bathe in the glow of the moon and the radiance of the stars.
Begin each day on your cruise with an invigorating Tai Chi lesson on the sundeck, just as the sun begins to rise. Coffee and tea will await the early bird. Before dawn, we will take a traditional sampan (a flat bottomed traditional Vietnamese wooden boat) to Cai Be. We will begin our tour with a visit to Cai Be’s boisterous and colourful floating market where traders gather to sell their produce and handicrafts. You will discover breathtaking landscapes along the river and admire the rustic life on the Mekong Delta. The evergreen islands along the Mekong River remain unknown to many people. Our cruise will stop intermittently to allow you to observe how rice paste, rice cookies and coconut candies are made, along with the longan fruit drying process. After touring the canals, we will head to an ancient house surrounded by fruit orchards before heading to the ship for lunch. In the afternoon, we will cruise to Sa Dec.Upon arrival, we will take a sampan to tour Binh Thanh Island and its man-made canals. Here, every villager is involved in the process of growing and weaving native leafy plants into natural fibre floor mats and rattan baskets.We then return to the ship for a tranquil evening cruise towards Chau Doc.
This morning we will arrive in Chau Doc, the fish sanctuary of Vietnam. We begin our day with a hearty breakfast at the Dining Hall. Prepare for a short excursion in Chau Doc, a pleasant town near the Cambodian border with large Chinese, Kinh and Khmer communities. We will also visit a colourful local market near an ancient temple. Next, we will take a trip to the quay, where we will be transferred to a local boat. This boat will take you to the floating market and rustic catfish farms. Here, you will witness schools of basa fish being fed by hand.
In the afternoon, you will return to the ship to eat lunch as we sail towards the border of Cambodia. Witness the stunning surrounding scenery and appreciate the beauty around you. In the afternoon we will reach the Vietnamese border. As the process to cross the border tends to take some time, you will have time to bask in the glow of the afternoon sun on the sundeck, treat yourself at the Spa, or sharpen your culinary skills with the Heritage Line’s Cambodian and Vietnamese cuisine cooking class.Tonight, we will continue the rest of the journey to Phnom Penh.
Welcome to Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s bustling capital city. Despite its rapid development, Phnom Penh has retained a lot of its rustic charm and elegance. After breakfast, we will be captivated by a lecture on Cambodia’s modern history. The lecture will be followed by a city tour of this dynamic and historical city with its French colonial allure. Sightseeing in the morning will include a visit to the dazzling white and gold Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and exceptionally beautiful Khmer craft at the National Museum.
After lunch at a local restaurant, we will visit the Genocide museum and the Killing Field in town. Here you will learn more about the tragic history of the Khmer Rouge regime. We will return to our cruise after the city tour is complete.A variety of cocktails will be served followed by a traditional Apsara dance performance on board. Experience the richness of this culture as you are surrounded by the soothing sounds of traditional music, the calming scent of incense sticks and a barbeque on the sundeck. We will spend the night here in Phnom Penh.
Today, we will depart Phnom Penh before the break of dawn with a quick stop at the little known silk-weaving village of Chong Koh. As we sail, the ship will cruise past the tranquil villages, exhilarating river life, and sun-hardened fishermen of the Mekong River.We will stop to tour the rural Angkor Ban village. Here, the houses here are truly rustic. Everything has been made by hand and without any concrete. You will feel overwhelmed by the unbridled warmth and kindness of the villagers. You may take part in the daily activities of the villagers to experience village life first hand.Once you return to the ship, we will begin to cruise towards Kampong Cham. Enjoy a lovely dinner on board.
Today we will rise early to visit the pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Hanchey. To get to the top, you may either take a motor-taxi or climb the 291 steps. Located at the top of a hill overlooking the river, it offers one of the most breathtaking views in Cambodia. Built in the 8th century, this ancient structure demonstrates the superb architecture of the Chenla Empire which predates the mighty Angkor temple complex. We will return to the ship to witness a blessing ceremony performed by local monks.When the tide allows, we will take our inflatable boats to the nearby bank for a dip in the Mekong river. We will then visit Wat Nokor, a temple built within the ruins of an ancient monastery. On our way back to the ship, we will stop to visit a local orphanage. After returning to the ship, we will visit a local orphanage. We will continue to cruise overnight to Kampong Chhnang.
The afternoon cruise will continue with a wander along the Tonle River, which narrows through leafy swaths of Cambodian jungle. You will be transferred to a bus which will take you to see the Khmer-styled pottery at a local village called Aundaung Russey. We will then take a thrilling motorboat excursion towards Kampong Chhnang into the wetlands. You will be able to admire the floating houses and fish farms as we sail through this waterworld, where everything sits on stilts balanced on the water.We will then return to the ship for lunch whilst cruising along the narrow and meandering Tonle River. In the evening, a delicious dinner will be served. This evening you may bring along your dance shoes and learn to jiggle the Cambodian way with our lovely staff, doubling up as dance instructors. (If you can’t dance, do not fret. Neither can our staff!) Day 8: Tonle Sap- Siem Reap
Take a journey across The Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake. This great lake dominates Cambodia, with its still water and quiet tranquility. The water level of the Tonle Sap varies a great deal according to the time of the year and the amount of rainfall in the different seasons. Admire the abundant birdlife as we sail towards Siem Reap.Enjoy your final breakfast on board and say goodbye to your crew as we approach Siem Reap, home of the world famous Angkor temples. We will arrive in Siem Reap in the early morning where we will leave you to continue your onward journey.
