It is slightly more complicated than obtaining visas for other countries in Southeast Asia for the strict regime that are currently governing Myanmar.
There are some options for tourists to get a visa for Myanmar: apply for a Myanmar Visa in their home countries or in China and Southeast Asia, apply e-visa for Myanmar online (only citizens of Australia, Brazil, United Kingdom, United States of American and 67 countries) or taking visa on arrival with travel agency’s support.
Due to international sanctions against Myanmar’s regime government, there are no direct international flights connecting Myanmar except the United States and European Union. Most travelers need fly to Bangkok and apply a Myanmar Visa at the embassy in Bangkok, then take flight to Yangon from Bangkok.
The Myanmar visa
The Myanmar tourist visa allows you to stay in Myanmar for 28 days from the day you arrive at the airport in Myanmar. A Visa for Myanmar is only valid for three months from the date of issue, so plan your trip accordingly.
It seems impossible to extend your visa duration. For overstaying, the government will take a charge of $3 per day, plus a $3 “registration fee”. But it is not visa for a longer stay.
Document Requirement
Passport with at least 6 months validity, one completed “Tourist Application form” with 2x2 inches two photos, one completed “work history Form”, copy of Flight Schedule/ Flight Itinerary showing round trip transportation from/ to Myanmar, and an applying fee of around $30.
